Microsoft provides several ways you can install a version of Windows on a PC. One of the easiest ways is to update your PC through Windows Update, which also allows you to sign-up for the Insider Program, giving you access to preview and beta builds of the latest Operating Systems.

However, this method doesn’t suit everyone, especially if you want to perform a clean, fresh install of Windows on your computer. As an alternative, Microsoft also provides several other methods, including a Windows Installation Media Creation Tool, as well as providing you the Windows ISO image, allowing you to create a bootable USB on your own using any other software.

In this guide, we are going to cover how you can use the Windows Installation Media Creation Tool to make a bootable Windows USB. The tool comes right from Microsoft and all you need is a USB (at least 16 GB or more), a working PC and an internet connection. Here’s how you can do it,

Create a Windows 11 Installation Bootable USB

  1. Download the Windows Installation Media tool from Microsoft.
  2. Run the executable file (you need to be an administrator). Click on Agree to accept the license terms.
  3. On the next page, click on Create installation media for another PC.
  4. Click on Next.
  5. Here, you can choose the Windows architecture (Windows 11), language, and edition. Choose according to your needs and press Next.
  6. It will show you two media options, check the box for USB flash drive. Click on Next, and on the next screen, click Next again.

That’s it. Now you need to wait for it download the required Windows ISO image and convert your USB into a bootable flash drive. Once the process is complete, you can unplug the drive and use it as a bootable drive on any PC you want to install Windows 11 on.
